Studio 2W

Now Accepting Applications for the 2020 Residency

LightSource invites artists to submit applications for 2020. We encourage artists of all disciplines to apply. We will consider all types of work so long as they can be translated into works on paper. We are especially interested in artists employing alternative methods of presentation and are open to experimentation when it comes to working with fine art printing. Artist must be local to the Bay Area to be considered.

Residency Structure

We will provide an artist with a full roll of fine art paper to produce a new body of work. Artists will receive studio space and access to a printer (and optional iMac) during the month of residency. Lightsource printing technicians will work one-on-one with the artist in order to get them up to speed on the basics of fine art printing. After that, we’ll be available, but you’re expected to work on your own. The residency will last for one month, with installation in the Studio 2W Gallery to occur during the fourth week in advance of the exhibition.

Artists also receive an exhibition in our Studio 2W Gallery during the month following the residency, with the opening to occur at the beginning of that month.

Additionally, Lightsource will announce the AIR and exhibition opening through our media channels, including our mailing list and our Instagram, and we ask that the selected artists announce the show via their social media as well.

Residency Background

LightSource is committed to providing our infrastructure and platform to support working artists in the Bay Area, and The One Roll Residency is a cornerstone of our contribution to this community. The AIR program provides materials, opportunities, and technical assistance to the chosen artist. The opening and exhibition create a space for people to come together, for artists to meet each other, and to introduce people to the power of the print. Both the residency and the exhibition are an opportunity to educate our audience about the specifics and strengths of fine art printing.
